prevent control function in nested families

I've created the universal accessible sign for both men's and women's bathroom doors and want to use them as a nested family in my door family. I have everything working, but if I flip the hand of the door, the sign mirrors too. Is there a way to "lock" the nested generic model sign family so that if I flip the hand of the door, the sign doesn't do it too?

How about two signs in the door family; one mirrored and the other not mirrored; one visible and one not visible. Then you can control which one is visible for each door in the project by toggling this visibility instance parameter.

If the generic annotation contains a text (like "M" or "W") or its a label, open it up and check "keep text readable". Then you need to constrain its position. For example, if you want it to be aligned with the wall, constrain the position and it will be readable regardless of any control. If you want it to be aligned with the door panel- yes, after using control, its position will be mirrored so that it remains aligned, but the text will never be upside-down.

note that "keep text readable" is exactly what the name of this parameter says, it can't keep text horizontal all the time. Otherwise it would be named "keep text horizontal"..... It can be aligned to whatever reference you choose but still readable.

Here's what I mean. See properties for door instances in project and play around with them. You'll get the picture.

Hi barthbradley,

That's what I figured I'd have to do, but was hoping there was something "simpler". I create symbolic lines to create "in-swing" vs. "out-swing" so the geometry always stays to the "exterior" face in my door families. I'll have to do what you did, but on both faces of the geometry and then set a whole bunch of parameters to get it to properly work, but I guess that's the only option.

Thanks for the reply
