Precast Stairs Parts

Hi everyone

I am trying to model a stair with precast threads/step. I tried to draw it using the stair tool and with both type Precast and monolithic from Revit families and also tried by sketch but it somehow looks the same in precast and monolithic stair all in one piece connected from bottom to top and when I select it it says monolithic run!!! except for the key joint at the top end there doesn't seem to be a difference and I cannot select the individual steps

I was expecting that I get several precast element. I tried to make it parts using the parts tool similar to what I would do with walls and floors but that option does not seem to be available for stairs!!

How can I model a precast stair with several elements or parts not one whole run in one piece?

Everyone tend to avoid such questions 🙂 especially when it comes to stairs... No one likes them and everyone believes that Autodesk Revit suck when it comes to the Stairs tool

So your options are...

• Model them one step at a time...The boring usual extrusions and sweeps with all those nice parameters and stuff; then you load into the project and place them like Legos one on top of the other, host them onto something...etc
1. Either in-place components...
2. OR in family editor..then load
• You can be a bit more creative and model it as an adaptive steps and stair

• OR you can use what Revit gave you as an option to convert stairs modeled using the stair tool INTO PARTS...It's is grayed out that is true but watch the screencast  to see how to enable it
  1. You will need to switch to display parts in the view
  2. You will have the stair divided into separate flights and landings
  3. You will be able to split parts, exclude parts, change material of each part and each split of a part individually
  4. and basically you can use it as a base for quite some possibilities
  5. and it applies to all stairs

PS: if someone asks you...Revit's stairs tool is amazing and as complete as it can get; what is not in made available in the tool itself; it developers placed a back door to get to it

I knew there is a way but it wasn't obvious...when I tried to argue about it in class everyone kept telling me no it's not possible and that I have to take the path you mentioned first! Now we'll see who's going to be laughing when I get to class

i would love to learn about those adaptive stairs you mention.I checked he chapter we will be doing by the end of this semester it's just a few pages with nothing more than triangles and squares. No real structures there. Any advice I can get from you on that?

I cant get this to work in Revit 2024, any ideas??
