Portable PC: Revit 2021 requirements

Hi all,

As title I would like to know wich kind of portable PC can be suitable to run properly Revit 2021, related to my needs.

I want to have access to our model even during my holiday because of my job position.

I am extremily manical in keeping  our model low sized.

Usually for small medium sized models I keep it below 25MB, whilst large sized project (e.g. 10-15 Storey building) below 250MB.

I do not perform any kind of rendering, but I do coordinate several discipline (Linked models)

I would prefer an ASUS beacuse I used it during my study career, but whatsover suggestion is highly appreciated.

Middle of last year I got a Dell G7 15 - 7590 and it has been working really well for my Revit models, Inventor, AutoCAD, Navisworks, etc.... (as well as some higher end gaming 😉).   I don't think that model is available any more, but here are the specs of what I got. There is plenty of room for improvements if you can afford it. this was the best i cold afford at the time.

The PC you suggest me is super awesome, but quite expensive too. Cosidering the fact I will be using it just few days in year (Usually I prefer work in office) I do not think is a good ROI.

PS For gaming I prefer XboX

Well you didn't say only a few times a year... LOL... 🤣. yes it was quite pricy.... if I remember correct it ran a hair over 2k. I purchased it as my primary Home PC. but i use it for my side business, for work and for software testing. so it was worth it 😁.

You can skinny down the price a little bit by probably $500 +/-:

• only getting a 4gb video card (vs the 8gb)
• 1 x 512 SSD drive
• 16gb memory (vs 32gb)

you'll take a little hit on performance, but should still be usable for what it sounds like your using for.  somthing else to remember is if you only using this a couple times a year, it is going to become out of date/spec really quick. spending more on it now will hopefully mean you wont have to upgrade again for a longer time.

For hardware, always at least double of what the vendors says the minimum is. 

But did you think about how you handle the Revit license and the project file transfer? if you use it on a laptop, you need to have Revit installed (and license) and move the project file. if other team member use the same central file, that will be a problem.

An alternative would be to keep that on your powerful office PC and to remote into that from your laptop. that way the rest of the team can work the same way, and the laptop doesn't need to be so powerful. 

My office PC has 32GB and all the Revit needs regarding CPU, GPU etc. But my home PC I remote in from is older with 16GB and iGPU and it works fine. 

I also would make sure the laptop is capable to run an external 4K display (mostly via USB-C and hub nowadays) and isn't just HD. Working on a 15" display must be painful outside of tiny edits to the model.

Thanks for your answer.

Our licence is ID Name based, thus just internet connection is in need.

The alternative is not handy becouse we want to keep working in Cloud.

To solve central problem issue I usually work with discipline linked file, so not big deal. Usually we subcontract all discpilines.

I d prefer using double monitor. This is just solution for few days per year because I d rather work from office.

I forgot to convert USD to EUR. Now it does not seem so pricey!

EDIT Yes it would not be Pimary PC. I would be in need of it if urgent work must be prepared even for weekends or holidays.
