Hi, I've been using a the Region hatching tool.
1. Create a new type (by duplicating an existing patter or via manage tab>additional settings> Fill Patterns)
2. (Re)name it Polyline
3. Parameter = Value
Fill Pattern = Solid Fill [Drafting]
Background = Transparent
Line Weight = 1
Color = White
4. Create the fill pattern with chosen linework, You can even chose <invisible> to give it that open-ended-polyline look.
Note:
1. Line length displays in Properties pallet during sketch mode by selecting individual lines (doesn't add them up when selecting all).
2. Fill area displays in Properties pallet after completing sketch by selecting the region.

-Use Property Lines, then use a Model Line ( if it needs to appear in 2D and 3D views) or Detail Line ( 2D Views only) with a style as required by your standards for Setbacks
-Then, using pick lines , select the Property Lines.
-Then, offset the Setback lines the proper distance from the Property Lines.

Hi can we use this method in views other than plan views? i.e. drafting view, sections, etc.?
Yes--you can use Pick Lines to draw lines in other views types.
This has helped me tremendously.
1.In the "Modify" tab, create a new "Region" and call it Polyline.
2. In the "Edit Type" properties pallet, select ",No pattern>
3. Uncheck "Masking"
4. Click "Ok"
If you want to be able to select the line and not the field, in the "Annotate" tab, under the "Select" pull down arrow, uncheck "Select element by face"
What's great about his option is that one can easily change line types and thicknesses within the "polyline." instance.
