People, I'm sure you are all sick of this post fo people complaining about Revit, but really, instead of giving just "corporate answers" you should make real improvements in Revit.

I'm trying to streamline a Workflow to get our models from Revit to some indoor developed tools in Rhino, so we need to model a surroundings models as Masses, then we export it to Rhino as DWG with ACIS surfaces to run our simulations. The problem, it is almost impossible to model the masses in an effective way in Revit, it is easier to do it outside it. A Workaround you would say, yes, but what we want is to have processes that we can overlook without going to 3 different files, so I can manage my time between meetings, planning the job inside the project and check the products before delivery. So a simple function as dividing horizontal surfaces is not yet available, check the forum and you folks answered in 2015!!! that you will look into it and give an answer.

It should be easier ways to do simple polygon modelling in Revit, the UI should be more oriented to 3D work, etc, etc. I'm not writing this hoping you'll solve something for me, but to make you aware that we, the End Users of Revit are having serious problems using your software and this is something that needs to be addressed, instead of a helping hand Revit is becoming more and more an obstacle to our work.

I don't really think you'll find many 'corporate answers' here and you don't really think so either I suppose, else why bother posting the question here? Or were you just complaining?

As to your question itself it is not as clear to me what you're trying to create, adding an image would help... If massing doesn't work for you, why not just create it as (in-place) generic models or maybe you could use a (variable flat) roof with modify subelements or something? You could make simple house shaped volumes etc...

This is a user based forum for users to help users. No one here is corporate. Your request is in the wrong place.

If you want solutions to specific issues, ask questions. Otherwise, there are better avenues for placing requests like, "Make your product easier to use for my workflow."

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Hey,

As noted above this is a user forum.

However, that being said, maybe investigate Dynamo https://dynamobim.org/ or  external solutions such as Hypar or Rhino.Inside.Revit, for ways to streamline your workflows.

Hopefully that is of interest,

Mark

Thanks for the answers, I'm very aware that this is a User Forum and yes I'm very frustrated with this, sincerely this got under my skin today, I'm sorry if this bothers you.

The massing thing is something we will find a solution to, but it is insanely frustrating to get over and over the same answers: model it outside Revit and import it, use Dynamo to draw the most basic geometries, etc. All these solutions are valid, but they increase the administration time and complexity of our model, something I'm very kind of keeping low for many, many reasons.

In this case, I went to check what Autodesk has to say about dividing horizontal surfaces in masses, found this from 2015 (seriously?), though it would be great to reach them via their link, then everything goes the same way: an infinite cascade of possibilities, making it almost impossible to reach somebody in an effective way. This happens more frequently than it should.

Of course, I can get via our License Manager in the company (we are 900 in the company), open a ticket, try to get an answer before next week's meeting, meanwhile try to coordinate my colleagues that are doing their job and hope the next time I'll have to deal with this we remember there is a solution.

Sincerely I think this is a relevant problem, every time we found partial solutions to technical stuff while the strategic level of this remains untouched.

@aksel_alvarez It's not always as easy to find a good workflow, so your frustration is understandable. Could you add an example image of what you are trying to model/achieve? It would help with defining the issue you're having and providing a solution.

Since your posts indicate that you are more interested in complaining than getting solutions, you should contact Autodesk.

If you want solutions from users, ask direct questions.

I shared the same pain. Revit 3d tool haven't really evolve since 2010. So a lot of their tools are so limited and I get frustrated a lot of time. When I work with complex surface, it always tell me that the panels has too many edge and Revit cannot continue. This limitation should be addressed or I don't recommend using Revit for any complex shape.

Why are you using Rhino?

Streamlined workflow would be to start the project in Revit and complete it inc. construction documents in Revit.

I rather have Autodesk use resources to improve Revit instead of accommodating 3rd party software users. 100% of the Revit subscribers use Revit, but only a minute % uses Rhino.

This is true for all software, all that importing/exporting with "standards" is lacking. Best to stay within one application wherever possible.

i don't know allot about Rhino, but instead of using Revit to make your massing, have you tried FormIt? it is an autodesk product that can be ported into Revit when needed as a mass. Working in Formit is more like Sketchup and may be easier. i don't know how it will export to rhino though.
