Plan vs. Area Plan

What advantages does a Plan view have that an Area Plan does not?  I would like to modify my Area Boundary Lines as I make design changes to the exterior walls, and am finding that the Plan view is not being used.  What's the harm in ditching the Plan views altogether and just using Area Plans for my drawings from here on out?

You cannot have Room color schemes with Area plans.

Well, you can place an area in an area plan ,

But not in a "normal" plan.

On the other hand, you can have areas that overlay because they are "area plan specific"( and calculation / conceptual objects), but you cannot have overlaying rooms (that are physical objects).

That is the why of the two types of plans.

i would personnaly stick to the original intentions of Autodesk...

Stick to their workflow, you do not know how each type of plan will evolve with updates/new versions, and you do not want your project to stop working in the future!

Areas do not show as linked elements.

If you need to show an Area in a linked model you need to use the By Linked View setting
