Plan Views forced to print Raster

As the title says, all my plan views are being forced to print in raster mode.

I have gone back to an old save before I went on vacation, and it doesn't do it there, but in my new one it does.

This is after an architect was messing around in my file, but I can't for the life of me get it back to the way it was.

I've made sure none of my view templates have any of these settings on - Shadows, Shading, Point Clouds, Sketchy Lines, Depth Cueing, or Gradients.

My section views have no problem, it is just my plans.

I've tried removing all the linked CAD files, and all the links in general. I've purged everything not used out in a detached copy.

Is this issue for a specific user profile/ project?

Which printer are you using? Are you printing to pdf before your physically print?

Looks like the settings have a 'force rasterized' option present in your printer options.

Also, check if there is transparency for any of your families and model elements

The problem does exist across users.

I am printing to PDF before sending to the printer. I've tried printing directly to our printer and have the same issue. And I have Foxit, CutePDF and Adobe PDF writers all with the same issue.

Can you elaborate on this? the only setting I can see is in the print settings where it says Hidden Line Views - Remove Lines Using: (and the two options are Vector Processing and Raster Processing, this is always set to Vector)

I dont see any overrides for transparency in the VG overrides for any of my views, but since its all my plan views, thats where I would expect to see it, acting at a view template level. In a view I turned off all model elements, and it stopped giving the error.

So now I'm on a track it down method, turning things on one by one to see what the problem element is.

I've encountered another oddity.

On a problem view, like all plan views. I was using temporary view properties.

- in the VG menus, When I checked the box at the top of the Model Categories Tab, to not Show model categories in this view. My problem went away.

- Then I checked the 'Show model categories in this view' box, and unselected all the options making sure the filter list was set to show all disciplines, my problem persisted.

Thanks for the detailed response.

Revit uses raster processing for certain views and forced raster option is available on some physical printer options.

Can you share the Revit model and journal file to investigate this issue?

I would need assurances that the folder is private. The project is sensitive, as I've signed non disclosure agreements for it. I'll have to pose the question to the higher ups and see if it's even allowed.

I might be able to strip the important data out of the model and send it worst case scenario.

The problem has even persisted across, when I saved the model as a template to use for another station we are doing in a similar geolocation.

There are no model elements left from that first model, but both models have the issue.

So. In clearing out the model of things. I found that there was a couple of navisworks models used at one point.

They were found in the coordination models button, but they were unloaded. It didn't seem to matter that they were unloaded.

When I removed them from the model, my issue went away.

From the printing sittings , make sure the vector processing is marked.

In addition, views with shadows,point clouds, sketchy lines, depth queuing and gradients are forced to raster processing.

Yes, I already stated in my OP that I checked all the view settings.

and in another reply I stated I was making sure that the vector box was checked in the print settings

The issue ended up being navisworks coordination models being left in the working model

I'm happy to hear that your issue is resolved.

However, I am not 100% convinced that the Navisworks links force raster print. A journal would be able to confirm these.

Sure, I can share the journal files. Can you send me a link?

I tested it a couple of times, and with both models, I opened fresh local copies, did nothing other than remove the navisworks links, and it solved my issue every time, with both models.

I think this is what was causing it when the NW files were linked into your model, and explains why it was fixed when you got rid of the NW files.

Your journal seems normal. 

Did you try printing the whole set or separate views? (In some instances only one sheet is forced to print in raster)

Did you try bullzip or bluebeam pdf printers? They seem to have advanced settings when it comes to controlling raster/vector output.

Try exporting to dwg and see if the PDf print in vector.

Unloading the coordination model temporarily removes it from the Revit model. If you've used visibility graphics to define transparency, then that might also account for the forced raster behavior, but again this is an assumption and not proven. Coordination models use one of the following visual styles. 

• Upgrading your Revit 2018 is recommended since your journal shows that your build number (20170927_1515) is on the first customer ship and not 2018.2. Please use your desktop app to install updates.
• Also update your graphics card: NVIDIA Quadro 4000 driver from the manufacturer's website. The last update was in 2016.
• Error: CoordinationModel FileCache: unexpected exception when cleaning up cache directories.
• Please clean your temp files
