Placing elements (ifc-files) into a model

Hello,

I am a mechanical engineer who primarily works with Autodesk Inventor. I recently received a quotation from a customer to position some machines in a workshop to assess their fit within the space. To achieve this, I created the machines in Inventor as 3D models, saved them in IPT file format, and then converted them into IFC files.

The workshop's structure is represented as an IFC file. My current objective is to integrate the machine models (boxes) into the workshop building.

My question is whether this can be accomplished solely using Autodesk Inventor or if I need to acquire Revit software for this task?

I would greatly appreciate any guidance or tips on how to place the machine models within the workshop using Revit.

Thank you.

I see these three possible solutions:

1) From Inventor, you can save your objects as Revit families. There is a way to export your objects into .rfa format. Then you load those families into a Revit model of the workshop if you have it or if you get it done by someone.

2) Or..., using Revit, you can open your .ifc files and save them as .rvt (project) files. Then open a model of the workshop and link your new .rvt files into the workshop.

3) Or... If you want to do it the other way around, considering that you are more familiar with Inventor than Revit, I assume that Inventor can import .dwg format. Therefore, you can have someone make a model of the workshop in Revit and export it from a 3d view to .dwg format; then you import that .dwg in Inventor and place your objects.

You can try this add-on.  Even if you need to pay after the trial it would most likely be cheaper than Revit.
