Placing electrical outlets (gpos) and data points question

So Im trying to place the families that revit gives you from it library into my project. The two i am trying to place are electrical outets and data points. I am placing them on the wall and for some reason i cant see them in any view. I dont have any visibility graphics overrides (VV) active that may be causing this.

Ideally i would like to place gpos and data points that are visible in the model (and sections) that also have an annotation symbol that is visible in the electrical plans.

You can't see them in any view, yet you are certain they are placed???  I wouldn't be.  

Try activating  Reveal Hidden Elements in the Views they should be visible in.  See 'em?

Or try this: Go to a default 3D Wireframe View, select the family in the Project Browser, right-click and press Select All Instances In Project.  Anything selected?  

...when you placed an instance of one of these families in the view, did Revit warn you that it wouldn't be visible?

Yeah i can only see them in wire-frame why is that?

Is there a way so you can see them in other Visual styles?

You should. Let me ask again: When you placed the component, did Revit warn you that it wouldn't be visible in the View? 

...what family are placing?  One of the OOTB families?

Nope revit didnt.

I was in foor plan view and placed a data point and gpo. I can see the annotation symbol that is associated with the data point and the electrical outlet in this view.

When i go into a section or even in 3D i cant see the actual outlet or data point in the model unless i go to wireframe. Wireframe is no good to me because im making working drawings. I need to be able to see it in a normal view

Oh! So you can't see the geometry! That's because it's not visible in the View by design. Go into Family and change the geometry's Visibility Parameters.

One more question in reagrds to this; how do i change the annotation symbol that is associated with these families that is visible in the top down view (floor plan) im guessing i have to go into the family and find it in there?

You want to change what it says. Select the component in the Project, and look under it's Type Properties. Should be a parameter called "Label".  Enter whatever text you want it to display in that parameter field.

The data outlet had a label but my electrical outlet doesn't.

Is it possible to add a label somehow to it?

Sure. Open the one with a Label and see how it was done. It's a nested Generic Annotation Family with a Label.  Probably has 2D line work in it as well.   Open it up from the Host family and save it under a new name and then load it into the Family you need it in.

I think they added a new parameter in it somehow.

I think they added a text parameter and called it Label?

By editing that blue box in the top left hand corner of the family called family types?

What they did was ASSOCIATE the "Label" Parameter in the Nested Annotation Family to a "Label" Parameter in the Host.  Are you familiar with Associating Parameters to other Parameters?

...the original "Label" Parameter (the one in the Annotation Family) was created when the Label was created.  I'm talking about crated with the Label tool an the Create tab.
