PDF Print Font issue using DiRoots plug in

Hi,

I have this PDF font issue that whenever I print a PDF using DiRoots Plug in, the font on the PDFs comes out large and overlapping itself. I know it's a font issue, that Revit or PDF printer cannot find the font, but where do I specify font for DiRoots? In Revit, in DiRoots? I've had this issue before with Adobe as well.

Cheers!

Hi @laura_johanssonBS8RK,

Is the font type in the pdf a different one then using in Revit?

One the same system the fonts should normally be found by the pdf viewer, but on another system where the specific font isn't installed, the appearance will change. If a non-standard font is used always use embedding in the pdf printer.

But this sounds to me a more sizing issue, do you have a dual monitor setup?

And is the Scaling of text etc identical setup for both monitors.

Having them different and dragging the Revit window from one to another screen of just having the properties palet on one and main Revit screen on another can mess with the correct use of DPI setting in printing.

What Revit and Windows versions?

Are you using a recent Revit version? If yes, there is a native PDF export now. Switching to that almost always solves issues people have when exporting PDFs these days.

It does not solve the problem.
Using PDF24  in ProSheets the font becomes bold but keeps the width factor. Using Revit Native setting the font is replaced by Arial with default width settings. The same thing happens when I use Export to PDF feature of Revit.

Revit 2024, DiRoots 1.4.0.
Font - Bahnschrift (windows native)

Hi,

Looks like 2 separate issues?

Found this: https://help.pdf24.org/en/questions/question/windows-fonts/

And there have been post about the Revit PDF exporter not always respecting some fonts.

Maybe try another PDF printer, to exclude issue with both PDF printers?

There is no way to choose another PDF printer. There are only 2 options in DiRoots: Revit Native or PDF24. Both change the font type when printing.
The only option is to use "Microsoft Print to PDF", which prints PDF properly. But in this case I must print every sheet separately and then use 3rd party software to combine all drawings into a single multy-sheet file.

Hi,

Learned something, DiRoots uses a Fixed printer and not a option to select any windows installed printer.

If the Sheets have the same size you could use SheetSets and the original Printing in Revit and chose any installed windows printer (and in this case a virtual PDF printer.)

There's a Free PDF-XChange lite virtual pdf printer. Link

I Use PdfXChange for over a decade and have never had any print issues (I do use it in a my own written plugin to print different sheetssizes at once with filenaming rules, and it can select any win. printer.)

Hi @alekseiVTCSP,

What Font are you using in Revit

What PDF viewer are you using?

Have you tried another PDF viewer, maybe it's the viewer that replaces some fonts to Arial?

Does this also happen on other machines?

Can you share a un-edited pdf with this issue?

Edit the PDF 24 printer preferences from the list of Windows printers and set to Embed all all fonts.

Using Bahnschrift Light Semicondenced. Viewvers: Edge, Foxit, Adobe. Happens on all machines.
Partly solved by the comment about PDF24 preferences, but the font is still looking bold.

The font used in the PDF now is "Bahnschrift Light"

So It should be

I don't know how common this font is, but I do see issues online with this font.

With several PDF virtual printers you can define which fonts to always or never embed into the pdf.

Also the Dots/resolution of printing to pdf can alter the size a bit, the higher the resution the more accurate the size will be printed.

Copied the text and changed it to the Semicondenced version, can't see much difference between them..
