Passing type parameters between host and embedded families.

When passing parameters between Families /Instances, I know that:

1. I can associate a Type Parameter of a specific Family instance to an "external" parameter.

2. How to set Type parameters to global values.

 

But other than the above is it possible to:

3. >>automatically<< access a value of the HOST, without having to associate it every time? For example being able to constrain a window relative to the top of the hosting wall?

4. Have the HOST access a value of the embedded Family? For example have a window or curtain-wall access the size of a panel type?

 

Any help here would be great. Even just a link of something to read about data-transfer.

Not clear what you are trying to do, but you cannot constrain a window relative to the top of the hosting wall without some gymnastics. Why would you want to anyways?  Also, Nested Family Parameters can be associated to Host Parameters - not vice versa.

Would Global Parameters get you to where you want to go?  Not a lot of complicated gymnastic moves necessary for that.

Let's say that I wanted a custom window that would always end 40 cm from the top of the wall (like Sill height, only for the top), regardless of how high the wall was. So I don't think a Global Parameter would help.

Wouldn't this still require to set this up for EVERY window (or set of windows)? That duplication of effort is what I'm trying to avoid.
