Parametric sweep model in Column

I am trying to make a column with a top and bottom details which are modeled as sweeps. even though the top sweep is locked to the reference plane at the top when i increase the reference plane height the sweep doesn't adjust to it.

the attached screenshots show my problem better. Thank you in advance. my Revit version is 219

Does the screenshow sometime show already built? I would need to look at the  the model to see how its built and know for sure how to resolve. But, right of the bat, the one thing I don't see -- that I think you need  -- is a labeled dimension between the top and bottom of the Base, and/or a labeled dimension between the top and bottom of the Column.  Basically, I'm not see how it's suppose to flex or how it's constrained.

here is the revit file that i tried to do. i have added a dimension and a parameter. but once the reference line changes the parameter gives the warning that it cant fullfill the required task without breaking the parameter.

oh no... revit doesnt allow to convert to previous versions. is there anyway that you can see this in a 201 version? i badly need help for modeling this as a parametric column.

There s no way. But you can wait for the US daytime. That's when you have more available people and I'm sure that someone can open the file.

A dimension in front view from the base of the column to the top is not needed in this case, because this template has 2 levels, therefore the height is supposed to be controlled by levels and offsets, like a column in a project.

What is required is that the sketch of the capitel is drawn at the upper level workplane.

Before making the capitel (as extrusion or as sweep), use the Set tool and select Upper Level. That will fix the issue of the capitel not responding properly when the height of upper level changes.

But there are other issues in this family. When the Width parameter is changed, the geometry of the body of the column does not remain symmetrical. You need to constrain that extrusion with some equal equal constraints.

Here's my input;  a relatively simple solution: 

Make the base/cap component as a separate family (Generic Model.rft)  and nest it into the column family.   

Are you familiar with that workflow?

your comment was really helpful. yes now i see where i got lost. i created the sweep sketch in the lower level. but the profile in the upper level. thought that the profile would move with the level regardless of which plane it was drawn at. really appreciate your help. thank you.

PS the column extrusion was little complex. that's why i didn't add any parameters there. because it would be the same throughout the project.
