Parametric Array in X and Y

It's just a tiny little Purse Locker. Shouldn't have been too much trouble. Per previous posts on this topic, I first created the family, arrayed it in the X direction with two objects, and applied an array number parameter to it. I've even attached the file for your admiration and edification. So far so good, right?

Then I nested my X direction family into another family - and the real fun began.

Arrayed it in the Y direction. Piece #2 developed a mind of it's own and I had to sweat like the dickens to get it to sit where I want it. Applied an array number parameter - BOOM! Both pieces moved all over the place! Moved them (again), changed the array numbers to create the array. The X array worked perfectly. The Y array was a disaster. Please admire the screenshot and and instead of a box of tissue offer some sage advice....

- Array unit in X direction.  Save as a family X.

- Nest X in to family XY.  Array X units in Y direction.

...and that is precisely what you see in the screenshot! The attached family IS Family X. It's when I take it to Family XY that all hell breaks loose....

OK, I take the last message back! Everything works well on these lockers, but they still show in solid lines on a plan view. I have added symbolic lines, model lines, made sure that they are visible in plans, and even then I don't see the hidden lines. The most fun is when the lockers are raised 60" above floor level - they disappear altogether....

It doesn't work like your file. I cannot send you me revit links iin here, so could we go to email? Please it is so important to me. I am so close to do that.

Thank you in advance.

Were you able to download the solution files from the discussion thread and analyze them? The thing that you need to remember is that this family needs to work as multiple nested families.

1) Individual locker family

2) Nested into family with horizontal parametric array

3) Nested into another family with vertical array

I see from the files that you have uploaded that you are trying to array an electrical fixture. This is a face based family, which can complicate things. Here is the workflow that I would follow.

1) Open the light fixture family

2) Select by window all geometry - except for the face.

3) Paste this geometry into a generic model family

4) Follow the steps that I have explained above It's VERY important that the nesting is done in Generic Model families.

5) Finally - nest the final family with the array and nest it into an Electrical Fixture family

Let me know if this works!
