Parameters & Tags

Hi there,

I've created a few project parameters that i would now like to be able to tag.

i understand to do this i need to create a shared parameter.

i am beginning to think i should have made them all shared parameters to begin with but i am just wondering is there anyway i can convert the already created project parameter to a shared parameter that will maintain the data already inputted to the project parameter or do i need to create the parameters again as shared parameters from the get go and populate them again?

many thanks

Shared Parameters are identified by their GUID - not by their Name.  Besides, you cannot replace a Project Parameter. You can delete it and add a new one.

You will have to create the parameters again as shared parameters.

However, you might be able to keep your data with a workaround.

After creating the new shared parameters, you could use a plugin like DiRootsOne SheetLink to export the parameters to Excel. In Excel you can copy the values from the old parameters to the new ones (might be difficult for multi-line text). Then you can import the updated parameters and finally delete the old non-shared ones.

Thanks very much, this method worked as well as I could have hoped for, created them as shared parameters but was able to use diroots to transfer the data between them and back into the project

You can use the global parameter route. However it will only work if the project parameter is a constant value and does not vary between one object over the other.
