Pads won't cut new topo

I created a project with a topo surface made from GIS contours.

I now have a survey, and I created a toposurface from the countours in that file, but the pads won't cut it.

How do I get the pads to cut the new topo I have? I tried changing the phases of the new topo

The Building Pads won't cut the Toposurface???  What are they cutting then? They have to be cutting some Toposurface if they are actually created.   Are they?  Do you see Building Pads in the View?

Out of curiosity,  how far away from the Internal Origin are your Topos.  More than  10 miles?  I'm thinking what may be happening is that you modeled your Toposurface at it's actual GIS location on the earth.  If so, you need to move the Toposurface, as well as anything else, to Project's Internal Origin.  You can always set your Survey coordinates correctly if that's important.

It is not the phasing, but the sequence of creation. Topo needs to exist before a pad for the pad to cut it.  Try cut and paste the pad in place.

Do you mean to say that there is no Cut/Fill data appearing under the Properties for the new Toposurface and Toposurface Infill created by the Pad?  If that's what you mean, those calculations only show when you place a Building Pad on a Graded Region Copy and the Source Toposurface for the Graded Region Copy is in the preceding Phase.

I don't want to delete the old topo. I would normally try to cut it and keep it in the clipboard, do my thing, then paste it back, but I need the clipboard for the pads. I will try pasting it from a file copy

Move the old topo to a design option.

So I think I'm on the right track, I was able to'

1. cut the pads to the clipboard
2. delete the old topo (saved in file copy)
3. create new topo
4. paste pads onto new topo and they cut. Some extended off the topo so they deleted themselves
5. Paste large context topo from file copy. I also pasted the pads that extended off the new topo

BUT, the ones that extended off the new topo, cut the old topo, but not the new one. Not sure I can solve that issue.

Try the design option approach.

I started working on it with design options. I have never learned to use that tool, but I will now.

I put the old topo on a design option, so it won't show up in the majority of my drawings. I just want it there for when I export to Lumion for a fly through, so I can have it on in my Lumion export 3D view. I don't know about the pad cutting issue, because I want the pad to cut two topos, but I will keep working on it.

Yes you can choose show the old topography when it is in a design option.  

• Create a design option set
• Add 2 design options in the set
• Select old topography and send it to design option 2 (secondary)
• When you want to show the old topography, duplicate the view, vgo and set the design option set to design option 2
