What is the best way to create this look in Revit?

Ideally I would like to make it something that would show up in renderings.

If you don't care about seeing thru the holes then you can create a special model hatch pattern and use it for the surface material of the wall. Or create a face based or wall based family with parametric array of a few rectangles and filled region to mimic the pattern.

If you absolute need to see thru the holes, use the same family method above, but replace the filled region with a void to cut the wall. It is not recommended if the wall area is big because your computer will suffer some performance hit.

Hi!

If you need precise geometry, you can use adaptive components and create not only flat surfaces but even something like this.

You could make a material definition that has a screen like this to produce "holes" when rendered. It would be solid otherwise but when rendered would be see through at the holes.

The perforated metal materials are like this. You could use that and adapt it for brick.

The "cutout" aspect of the material appearance will make holes when rendered.

The unfortunate part of this is that I still need the wall to act as a wall for doors, wall sections, etc... But this could potentially be used as the brick facade with a wall backup...

As for the cutouts, that seemed like a good idea, but you don't get the depth of the brick. It acts only as a screen.

Perhaps voids is the only solution? I'm wary of that because of the performance hit, though.

Or you can create a custom grid curtain wall with empty panels for the holes.

How did you get the alternating grid lines there? Did you have to remove the individual segments by hand?

I removed segments from two grids and array them.

Interesting. I didn't realize you could do that! That is definitely an option, then. I'm thinking I might try a wall-based void family and see what happens first. Thank you for all the ideas!
