Open models with Revit from BIM360

I have models on BIM360 Document Management and would like to open them from Revit.

When I open Revit it tells me I don't have access to Revit Cloud models. When I follow the links to subscribe to Revit CLoud Worksharing or Cloud Models for Revit it takes me to Autodesk products and I don't see anywhere and option assign users as per help.autodesk suggestions.

I have BIM360 Document Management. We use Revit 2020 but I could upgrade if that helps to open the models from Revit.

To work on a collaborative model in Revit, a BIM 360 Design license is required

I have coorporate lisence for a project. Do you mean that with Document Management I will not be able to open models from Revit?

I have a broken file on Document Management and autodesk support tells me to open it from Revit to fix the broken link.  Is there another way then?

You can download and open a model, but if what you want is to collaborate with other people in the same model you can't if you don't have a Design license. The acces to revit cloud models from revit is only to models for collaboration. BIM 360 Docs is just an online repository

I do have model coordination option too. I need to fix broken model link so I wouldn't loose revisions on BIM360.

The error message you included references two distinct services (with different access requirements):

  • Revit Cloud Worksharing: This is for working with workshared Revit cloud models and requires a subscription to BIM Collaborate Pro (formerly BIM 360 Design)
  • Cloud Models for Revit: This is for working with non-workshared Revit cloud models and requires a subscription to Revit (or a collection that includes Revit).

To check if you have access to these services, go to https://manage.autodesk.com/products and look for the following items:

 Accesserror.png

For both of the services above, you also need View + Download + Upload + Edit permissions for the folder you will be accessing/uploading the Revit models.

The following article has info on troubleshooting this error/behavior: Cannot access BIM 360 Projects in Revit

However, for the issue with the broken icon there is an additional requirement:

  • In order to open/edit the Revit model (with a broken icon) it needs to have been uploaded to the cloud through Revit (as a workshared or non-workshared Revit cloud model).

If the Revit model was uploaded through a browser, or through the Desktop Connector, then a different path would need to be taken to fix the broken icon.

Can you confirm how the model was originally uploaded (or if others are able to open/edit the cloud model through Revit)?

Lance,

I do not have these services under my products. The model was uploaded using internet browser by dragging and dropping it.

What is the other way to fix the broken link that you mentioned?

Thank you,

Lina

Lina,

Thank you for the clarification on how the model was uploaded.

For models uploaded to the cloud project outside of Revit, you should be able to modify the original RVT (if this is not available, you could download the RVT from the cloud project and open in Revit). After making changes to the model, you would upload the updated version to the cloud (to test if the publish succeeds).

The following article has info on troubleshooting the model:

Broken icon or "Extraction failed" when uploading or publishing a Revit file to BIM 360 Document Man...

Thank you, I did that.

I was just hoping to avoid creating a new revision.
