Old generic model not updating materials

Hi all,

I have been following this post below on adding materials to generic models. And it works fine in a new project.

My problem is I have tried importing the generic model into an existing project which had an old version of the generic model. And it does not seem to overite or update from the old generic model.

I have deleted from the project browser and all materials associated with it and re-imported. Still seems to take the material properties of the old version! The revised model works fine in a new project.

What am I missing here?

Thanks.

It sounds as though you are trying to insert and update a generic model family. Try this -

1) Open the project with the old family. Select the family, click Edit Family - that will take you to the Family Editor.

2) In the Family Editor - go into Manage>>Object Styles - remove all materials. Select each piece of geometry in the family and make sure that it does not have a material

3) Manage>>Materials. Delete all the materials that you can. Purge Unused. Reload into the project and close the family

4) In the Project - delete the model materials. Make sure that the materials are also removed from Object Styles. remember - settings in the Project will override settings in the Family.

5) Load the new family into the Project.

Are you talking about a Revit Family?  Reason I ask, is because you say you are importing.
