Object transparency in Plan, Elevation or Section (without Override Graphics in View)

Is there a way to control the a group of objects transparency in plan, section, elevation... WITHOUT THE NEED TO OVERRIDE GRAPHICS IN VIEW. If a object is assigned a material, it is only transparent in 3D views, not in the mentioned flat views. If you go into visibility graphics it appears that you can set the transparency of each category, but the sub category are greyed out. I.e. Generic models. If I have a number of Generic Models and I only want 1 or 2 sub category's transparent, I don't want all GMs  transparent only the 1 or 2 selected (think a idea might be required here)

Was doing something similar with a Team member earlier this morning. Create a Yes/No Parameter and assign to Generic Models. Call it something like GM Transparency. Then select the GM you want to be transparent and check the box. Then use this Parameter in a Filter to set the Transparency for any GM that has that box checked.

Think I follow the process and will give it a go. This can be added to the 1 million list of things Revit should be able to do simply without "WORK AROUNDS" like process you mentioned. 🙂

Added the idea here: Visibility graphics subcategory control for patterns and transparency (ref back to this question)

I wouldn't consider it a workaround..... its what the Filter function enables you to do. Once you get to understand and use Filters more, you will appreciate the power of them. But be careful how you apply the rules and be specific in the naming convention. Too many Filters can counteract each other if the rules are not assigned properly.
