No NSEW elevations and can't see model in new elevation

Hello all,

another day another Revit mystery:

In order to edit a toposurface I have split it - turned the bit I am interested in into a group - and used the  Group, Link button to pull it out as a separate model.

My problem is the usual NSEW elevations are not in the new project and when I put an elevation in I can't see anything except the levels symbols in elevation view.

I have tried ZA and suspect it is something to do with scope boxes but having made one and moving my own elevation around the objects in the plan view I always get the Error "Section may not be associated to a scope box which lies behind it". Maybe it is nothing to do with that.

Everything is visible in 3D

Far clipping is set to 'No Clip' in elevation

Everything tickable in Visibility/Graphics is ticked

Phase Filter is set to 'Show All'

Any helpful suggestions short of 'Give up Revit' would be appreciated.

Jon

That your file does not have NSEW elevations is expected. When linking the group out of Revit it uses an almost empty Revit template.

That your phase filter is set to to Show all does not tell us very much. Because what is shown depends on which phase is active and in which phase objects have been created. Further the phase settings can be modified to show things differently.

Your object can be before/after/above/beneath the view boundaries of the elevation view.

Based on the error message I think you have a scope box active on your elevation but try to move it our of the boundaries of the elevation.

You do not have to give up Revit. However I would advice to follow some course (books, video or classical) to get more familiar with Revit and remove the mystery. It is one of the core functions of Revit to create views of a part of your model you are interested in.

You might also consider to upload your file so we can have a look at your settings and see hwy it is not showing

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

In the elevation you've already created, can you see the levels? Right-click on a level and choose "Maximize 3D extents". This will enlarge the level and make it go past the topography.

In the floor plan create a large scope box, next go to the 3D view and Zoom All.

You should be able to see both Scope Box and topography.

Select the scope box and move this to the topography, adjust the size of the scope box (length and width) so the topography fits inside. Chances are your scope box and topography are meters apart.

Make sure the scope box has enough height, so it encompasses the topography, but still cuts the floor plan.

In floor plan you can now locate your topography with the scope box, create an elevation (inside the extents of the scope box) and set the scope box for this elevation.

You should now be able to see the topography in that elevation.
