What version of Revit are you using?

Are you on Imperial or Metric system?

If you want to include piping, then you must use the plumbing template - or the new multi-discipline templates that come with the newer versions of Revit.

As for what to include in it, if you can't find any help, then this will be your own thing to develop. Lessons learned from your first projects will help establish those requirements.

I wasn't sure if there are any specifics I might need to know, I know that the walls and the floor make up pools in models are there any thing I might need to know. That I might not think when designing a building, that I might need to think of when designing a pool.

A swimming pool is no different than any other project, it’s an excavated topo, concrete, plumbing, drainage and electrical…heating system maybe. You do not need to overthink or complicate it more than necessary; simply keep it clean. Most of the oOTB families should suffice…As for the unit system used (metric vs imperial) that would depend on the region you are in and not the type of project.

To create a template:

- An OTB Revit template of the discipline (plumbing, structural, multi) and unit system (Imperial) - use this as the base.

- Basic items you will need in your models: type of projects, walls, floors, pipes, annotations, specialty equipment families, etc.

- Naming Standards for organization which also helps filter items in view templates and project browser

- Keep it simple. You will be constantly adding and modifying the template after every mistake, project deadline, version of Revit.

- Lessons learned from projects are the best feedback to help improve.

- Avoid bloating the RTE file with too much (crap).

- Avoid creating multiple templates.

- Never purge (Purge All) the template or your models. Only use selective purging of unwanted items.

- Do not use AutoCAD imports or workflows.

- Do not upgrade a template for more than 3 years. Start fresh every few years.

Feel free to share your ideas or the template if you want feedback.
