Nested Window Panel

Hi All

Thank you in advance.

I am trying to create a single window that can open and close from a top hinge. I can create the frame in the window family with no problems and I can create the window panel in the genetic model family with no problems. The problem is loading the panel into the window family. I get it loaded, but then the panel is on its side and then I can't rotate the panel into position. And Revit will not let me choose or change the work plane on the reference line that I use as the open and close angle for the window.

I have been struggling with this all day!

Something like this?  See the attached file and reverse engineer.  There maybe other way but I use this approach so I didn;t have to modify your original family.

Thank you for your response. I have often applied your advice on other matters when trying to find solutions to issues I run into.

I tried reverse engineering but alas, maybe I have just gone brain dead for the day. There were a few issues with your solution though:

1. The reference line moved off the hinge line/point. That meant I had to redraw the line. I am not sure if it was this that threw everything out of wack again because now the window was on a different work plain and I could not aline the window panel with the reference line again.

2. The window was inside-out 🙂 The handle should be on the interior.

Plus, I just realized that by doing it this way, I lose the capability of making the panel parametric.

In the sample file I only addressed the issue of your nested panel not hosted properly by the ref line and leave the rest for you to complete as they weren't specifically emphasized as what troubling you in your initial post (if they are then I apologize).  Are you expecting someone to fix the window 100% so that you just need to grab and go?

To answer some specific questions:

- the ref line can be moved and re-constrained, I may have dragged it off position

- the panel hosted on the ref line can be flip inside out on the hosting plane so the handle can be where you want it to be

- the nested panel can still be parametric by nesting parameters from one family to its host

Thanks again

It would be nice if the world worked that way but the idea is to learn to do it myself, as I am sure I shall run into this problem again in the future. 🙂 Maybe a good night's rest will do the trick and then I shall look at it again in the morning and let you know if this solved the problem.

Thanks again.
