Nested Family Won't Move with Host Family

I've created a door frame family with three types for standard frame depths (222, 172 and 146). I've then nested a door family into the frame family without issue and the door width and height movements, along with the type sets work as intended. My issue is that when i change the type from one frame depth to another, the nested door doesn't move with the frame, it stays where it was inserted. If I try and constrain the door to the "face of frame" reference plane, it says its over constrained but I can't figure out where.

I've attached both the frame family (FE-1) and door family (DE-1) for your reference. Any help is appreciated.

hi @m_blaine

I only have Revit 2017, so cannot open you rfa's but from your description seems that you need to constrain the door to a plane that moves with the depth; don't try to constrain the nested geometry to the frame geometry.

The Error Message says it all. Basically you have 2 entirely different families -- one hosted the other not hosted (DE-3 vs DE-1).  To clarify: your Family Types parameter won't work with these two different doors.

Solution to the 'over constrained' geometry that you are getting the warning about - Cut it and then Paste to the Same Place. That will remove the constraints and you can apply required constraints without further grief.
