Nested family with shared parameters, can't compute volume

I'm having some trouble with a nested conceptual mass family. So I made a nested family with some parameters, but I can't seem to have the volume computed by Revit once I turn "shared parameters" on in the nested families.

For example. Here I have the nested family, but without shared parameters turned on:

But once I turn on "shared parameters" in my nested family, it gives me the error: "Mass contains only mesh geometry, which can’t be used to compute Mass Floors, volume, or surface area."

The reason I built the family this way:

- The family contains multiple geometries, which I want to differentiate with a parameter called "NEN2580", for cost estimation based on volume. Each nested family has a different value for this parameter.

- The nested families also contain parameters to turn parts of the mass on/off for cost estimation.

Can someone help me to find out where the problem lies?

I found out that if I export my family to IFC, the volume does show up. So I guess the mass isn't incorrect.

Still no solution, but I thought I would add this information.

Hey,

Would you mind attaching the family or a simplified version that shows the same issues for us to investigate?

Thanks 🙂

What do you mean by Turning On and Off Shared parameters? shared parameters are not something to turn off or on...either they exist or they don't...And if you have shared parameters, you do not need the read only "Gross Volume" and "Gross Surface Area"

You can make a family shared by checking the shared property in the family editor, but that should not prevent the Gross parameters from being reported

Upload the one which you think is faulty, because it is not clear what you are doing and which results are you aiming to obtain from that model

With shared parameters in families I mean this option in the family editor.Screenshot_3.png

You can download the families with this link: https://we.tl/t-2wOLU8unmE

00_MJV_baron - massa is the main family. Other families are the nested families.

I believe you actually mean that your mass family contains another "shared nested mass family" (which has nothing to do with "shared parameters").  I have a very similar question but for a slightly different purpose. In my case, I want to create a mass family that also contains several nested families and when loaded into the project, I would like more control to independently turn on/off mass floors for each shared family as some forms/volumes contain double height spaces and so mass floors should not run through the entire mass.

Is this possible using a single loadable mass (with/without nesting) or would one need to load the masses separately into the project to have this sort of control?
