Hello everyone,

I have a complicated family with 5 different nested famalies. If i am assigning project parameter to parental family, then same parameter of nested families are remainig empty. So i have to select every single family by using TAB.

How i can assign parameter to all nested familes at ones?

That doesn't work when using Project Parameters...

  1. Add The Parameters Value 1, Value 2, Value 3 to the nested family (in Family Editor - Instance parameters)
  2. Reload into Host
  3. Add the Same parameters (from step 1) in the Host Family
  4. Select the nested Instances and associate Value 1, Value 2, Value 3 on the properties palette to the Value 1, Value 2, Value 3 created in step 3

Why Nest and Associate? The only parameter that exists in the Cube Family is a Type Parameter.  So that means every single Cube Family instance placed in the Project environment will be affected if you change this Type Parameter value of just one of them.

Well it is a tough guess if one does not know the purpose of the family and the expected final output...

  1. the nested components must be shared? or you just made them shared to use project parameters?
  2. can such parameters be type parameters or u need them instance? (Does the value vary per instance?)

Usually if you want them linked to parent, best would be to add and associate the parameters as suggested  above...otherwise make them Type Project parameters and associate them once from the browser

1. Yes, nested families have to be in spec so i did them shared;

2. It should be instance because i want to assign different combinations of this parameters to the same family type.

Looks like i have a gap in my parameters knowledges 🙂
