Nested families With Symbolic Lines

Hi

I'm Drawing a casement window family. Instead Of having the symbolic lines representing the swing in the family I prefer to create a nested detail Item for the swing (it prevents clutter in the host fam.) My Issue Is that even though the line style of the swing in the detail Family is 1/32" dash, it does not carry over into the host family; I end up with a much more coarse line style. I have tried to create new subcategories and try to overwrite but it does not seem to have any affect. How can I control the line style of a nested symbolic line?

@ElliotZelig

The Detail Item is a nested family; you can only change its style/pattern in the Project and the Detail Item family itself.

  1. the subcategory Swing which you have in the Casement is for Windows Category; therefore, it does not affect the nested Detail item. The Object Styles of 2D Detail Component are not accessible from the 3D Host family (windows)
  2. If you need OS the 2D symbol to be controlled / accessible in the Host Family and have both Cut as well as Projection style, model it as follows:
    • Start with a Generic Model
    • Change its category to Window
    • Create the Swing subcategory
    • Place the symbolic lines and assign to either Swing(cut) or Swing (Projection)
    • Load into the casement
    • This will allow you to access the Style of the Swing symbol from the Host 3D family
