Model in Place

Hi guys,

I am struggling with modelling in place. I have modelled a panel (wall) using extrusion and now it won't seem to let me move it freely. Can anyone help at all?

Thank you for the question @Anonymous !

If you create a new in-place wall, with a simple rectangular extrusion, are you able to move that wall?

I tested this on my system, and found that the wall should be able to move parallel to the level/workplane in which the wall was created, but would not move up/down (as it is hosted to the level/workplane).

Hi Lance,

Thank you for your response!

I have modelled a quick in-place wall with the plane set as the floor, extruding either upwards and side-to-side and it allows me to move it freely completely. Maybe my other wall isn't working because I set the plane as a vertical plane (in elevation rather than plan)?

Thank you for the update Pippa!

To check if the issue is with the current face/workplane, try editing the family and Pick a New Workplane.

Why don't you convert it to a Loadable Family?  Be easier to place multiple instance.

You can edit the model-in-place family, create group in the edit environment and save that as loadable .rfa
Or do it from scratch as loadable family ( new -> family template, generic ie.)..

edit: like @barthbradley mentions above actually

Hi Lance,

I managed to fix it. As I had built my model as an in-place wall, it had certain parameters which reduced it flexibility. I copied my extrusion over to a new in-place GENERIC model and that has allowed me to move it freely.

Thank you!

Hi,

I have now done it in a family so I can do exactly as you mention.

Thank you!
