Missing shared parameters file - Cannot open Shared Parameters in Manage tab

Hello everyone,

I am working with a Revit (2022) workshared project hosted on BIM 360, where our shared parameters text file is also located. For some reason Revit changed the reference to our shared parameters file to one generated by one of the linked IFC´s that we have on our model. That file is also missing for some reason. So I am getting the following error when I try to either access parameters in a family or Shared Parameters in the manage tab: (wurde nicht gefunden means cannot be found).

As we have a complex folder structure, I cannot know from which folder it is missing, therefore I cannot just generate a new one by opening the IFC, place it in the correct location, and then open the Shared parameters in manage tab. As I cannot access Shared Parameters in the manage tab, I cannot link to the correct file. Any ideas why that might be caused, or how it can be permanently corrected? Its quite frustrating that this error message doesnt give a full description.

Thanks in advance

Manage > Shared Parameters > Browser... > Point to the BIM360 folder and the file (you need Desktop Connector installed).

Hi ToanDN

Thanks for your reply. This was the first thing I tried, however clicking the Shared Parameters tab was not opening the Shared Parameters window, but was instead displaying the "missing file" window, as seen in the pic. I have attached on my first post. Perhaps I didn´t explain it clear enough.

I finally managed to temporarily resolve the issue by generating the aforementioned .txt shared parameters file by opening my IFC, copying it to several folders on the project directory, hoping that one of them would be the correct location Revit was missing it from. Then I could finally access the Shared Parameters window, and link to the correct file, as you describe,

My main problem is that for some reason Revit is changing the shared parameter file, without me doing it. Looking for the wrong file in the wrong location. This keeps occuring, for me and other users, and it is quite frustrating as I literally cannot link easily to the correct file, as the Shared Parameters window cannot open. I was hoping to find the reason why this occurs.

Has anyone else experienced that issue? It would be great to find out why this occurs in the first place, in order to fix it.

It has occured to other users in our office working on different projects hosted on BIM360. As I said above I found a workaround however it is quite "dirty" as I need to copy the shared parameters file in several locations hoping that one of them will be the correct location, and then sync those files with desktop connector.

It is extremely frustrating that the Shared Parameters dialog  in the manage tab cannot work if the shared parameters file is missing!

Hi Jim,

Yes, a solution I found is looking for the missing file location in the log file located located here: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit <Version>\Journals. When the error occurs, it shows in the log .txt file, therefore you can copy and paste the shared parameter file to the missing location and the issue seems to resolve. I hope this helps.

Kind regards

Minos
