Mirror Project Tips & Tricks - Mirror Linked Revit Models

Hello,

When I use the command Mirror Project on a project with other linked models.  Will it also affect their base files? If not,  how do I also mirror them at the same time?

Thanks

Mirror building means diffrent set of drawings, so you need to mirror all files and relink them to get the new mirrored building.

No it doesn't...Mirroring the link does not affect the original model of that link. It only mirrors its image in the main model.

  • Either you could open the originals and mirror those
  • Or if you want to keep the originals you can
    1. link them/each into a blank model >>>
    2. Mirror the link >>
    3. Bind the link
    4. and save as a new model mirrored and reuse those in lieu of the originals

What you need to keep in mind is that mirroring the project at a late stage of the design may cause various errors (some of which may not be ignored). Hence, Link/Bind might be your only way around such cases

Mirroring of Revit project process should be executed on all disciplines files at scheduled millstone before submission, to extract a correct set of drawing mirrored as needed, this process shall be occur with each submission; thus open the originals and mirror them. I don't agree with the option of keep the originals without mirroring, that will be confusing, where the links will not be placed/federated correctly when they come to Navisworks.

Our process is mainly focused on mirroring the projects and minimize the efforts required by MEP discipline of re-hosting their elements.

Your process is not the topic of discussion on this post; hence, you should not feel compelled to agree or disagree to anything!!!

You can get both a correct set of drawings and the properly set-out federated model in Naviswork using mirrored Links. If you are unable to do that at your end then it would be a good reason for you to start a new post because asking your team or consultants to model everything twice on projects with mirrored units would be quite a waste of time and money for Dar Al Handasah
