Hi All,
The source of my problem is that I want to allow the MEP engineers to add openings in the architectural model.
I have seen several posts defending the idea that MEP or civil engineers shall not change the architectural model but what if they just propose modifications (add, change) on openings? Why not?
Why using the clash detection to add openings when there is the copy monitor tool that shall do exactly what we want?
Back to my workflow:
I have an architectural model linked in the MEP model
I copy/monitor the walls
Creating an opening using the “edit profile” tool
Error message “Coordination Monitor alert: Missing Sketch” (normal as my arch model does not have the opening)
Back to my Arch model, and linking the MEP model (annoying that the copy monitor walls are duplicated)
Making my coordination review, one difference found: Missing sketch (normal)
Possible actions: do nothing or copy the sketch
Choosing to copy the sketch but nothing happens..
What am I doing wrong?
PS: I am pretty sure that there is another workflow for creating openings from linked models, but apart from the expensive plug-ins, I didn’t find it yet, any idea?

A question which may solve your issue ...
Instead of editing wall profile to create an opening...Did you try to cute those openings differently using void elements and/or wall based insert?

Hi Nick,
It sounds like what you are describing where the option to copy the sketch is present but nothing happens is something that has been previously logged with our development team. Unfortunately the sketching is not bi-directional with copy/monitor - it is something that our developers are investigating for the future.
If modeling the openings with void families is working I would suggest continuing that in the meantime.
I am sorry for the trouble this causes to your workflow. If you have any additional feedback about the behavior I would suggest providing comments at our Feedback Site.
