Material Library with Custom Parameters

Hi there,

I wasn't able to find this query anywhere, other than in a Revitcity forum without any positive answer, so here it goes.

I'm creating a Material Library for my office, but unfortunately the materials need to have custom parameters in order to be properly scheduled later on. I did not create the schedules, they come from a company standard, so changing them is not an option.

The question, is it possible to create a Material Library with Custom Parameters attached somehow?

These Parameters are indeed transferred if we transfer materials through 'transfer standards' between projects, so I was wondering if there was a way to do it through Material Libraries so I don't have to transfer every single material every time.

Maybe something with Shared Parameters, I don't know.

Hope this makes sense to someone.

Thanks.

Can you give me an example of a custom material parameter? Also, what do you mean by "scheduling" them?

Hi there,

By Scheduling materials I mean having a schedule showing for example the Paint Materials used in the project.

The schedules filters are configured so they respond to custom parameters set by someone in charge of standards (not me).

For example, one of the custom parameters is Material Clasification, and then the schedule has a filter that the material shows up if Material Clasification equals PAINT.

You can create Custom Parameters for Materials with 'Project Parameters', like you create custom parameters for anything.

Cheers.

got it. I misunderstood your question. I think your asking about sharing materials with those project parameters -- and you don't mean by way of Transfer Project Standards.  Yeah, they would need to be added to the adsklib file.

Good luck.

I don't think parameters add to Materials category in a project will be written to the adsklib files. You would need to transfer project standards > materials to get the parameter values come through.

Wouldn't you create those material instance parameters within your template?
