Material and finishes schedules

Hello all,

In the office that I am working we have the following desire:

We have for example : brick walls thickness 15cm and for finishes we have Plaster 1cm and Faience 1cm. In the architectural plans we design only the brick walls with the thichness of 15cm. 

We would like to create schedules that will generate automatically the surface of the materials and the finishes , the brick, the plaster and the Faience.

Is it possible? Which type of schedule I need to create?

P.S. When I create a materiall Takeoff schedule, in the columns Material main and secondary I don't have anything...

Ant guidelines would be helpful!

First of: a general rule in Revit is you can only schedule what you draw/model.

Second: when you mention "Material Main" and "Material Second", I assume you're using a multi-category Material Take-off. You won't see the materials from system families (like walls) in these schedules, you'll need to create a Material Takeoff for the walls category.

You could add layers to the wall's structure, and define them as Membrane layers.

These have zero thickness, so they won't be visible in the floor plan. But you can calculate their surface area.

Yes, I use a multi-category Material Take-off. I noticed that I need to fill the both parameters for the main and second material in the type properties for each wall.

I thought that these materials are the materials that I have assigned in the structure field..

I think that your solution about the membrance layer is useful for me.

Multi-category schedules NEVER contain system families like wals, floors,... You need to use the correct category when creating the Material Takeoff schedule.

Parameters like "Material Main" and Material Second" don't exist in the system families and if I'm not mistaken are actually text parameters, so you can't get area's from them. You'll have to choose the parameter "Material: Name" and "Material: Area" when setting up the schedule.

Here is a wall (system family) and I can find the parameters 'Material main' and 'Material Secondary' in the type parameters.

These aren't standard parameters, and have no relation to the materials used in the walls layer-structure.

Go to the Manage -> Project Parameters, you can probably find those parameters in that list. Select the parameter, click "Modify" and look at "Type of Parameter".

Well you are right!

Ok so I will use the parameter "Material: Name" in order to be able to see the material in the schedule.

The only problem now is that when I create the membrance Layer I don't have volumns as the thichness is zero.

Do you know something else that I can do?

Why do you need volume?

Faience and plaster are almost always measured in surface area.

If you really need volume as well, you'll have to model these layers. Either add them with a thickness to your original wall.

Or create a new walltype, containing only the plaster and faience. In the floor plans create a view filter to hide those walls.

If you need volume of the membrane layer, add a thickness parameter to the schedule to enter the thickness, then add a calculated value parameter to the schedule to multiply the area with the thickness to get the volume.
