Massing hills

Hi all, thank you to those who responded on my last post and helped

 

I've got a question about massing and how exactly to create this shape and landscaping form, I'm trying to replicate something similar to the hill with the passage ways intersecting between them as shown on this image (Karen Blixens Plads). How would I go about doing this? I'm aware that I would probably do this method of landscaping by massing but I'm just not 100% how and what would produce the best results.

Apply Wall by [Mass] Face to Dome Masses.

Ah I see, how would I go about creating the shape, cutting holes into a spherical mass? Are you able to screencast the process or perhaps take a few screencaps?

I'll use a Surface by Lofts and some Cylinder Voids to cut it, then Wall by Face:

  1. first create a basic contour drawing as Detail Line that will be followed by the future form ( this needs some extra work and it was not used in my rough screencast ) 
  2. then trace a grid of Reference Planes so to be a frame for placing the Reference Points ( in step 3)
  3. activate Massing&Site > In Place Mass
  4. place Reference Point on the grid created by Reference Plans (step 2)
  5. create Spline Trough Points - parallel Reference Lines
  6. select these Lines (Splines) and Create Form - a flat Surface , for the moment
  7. Edit this Surface by dragging the (Driving Curves) Points. Try to follow the guide curve from step 1.
  8. For an accurate height control , use also Offset Parameters
  9. in the same Mass session , create a series of Extruded Forms- cylinders. Make them as Voids. They will cut the surface.
  10. exit from Mass Editor by Finish
  11. in Project , use Wall by Face to create an organic skin. Roof by Face needs surfaces closed to horizontal and if there are parts of the surface vertical or close to vertical it will be not able to accomplish the task. That is due to the fact that Roof by Face work with Plumb Cut Roofs and when close to vertical , the edge height tends to infinite...and then the error.

What I did was modify and size the OOTB "Dome.rfa" Mass and then create a VOID Mass Form penetrating the Dome. Easy breezy.

...and then applied Wall to Faces in the Project

Perfect! Do you know how to then possible get a railing of some sort to follow the top of the mass around the hole?

Sketch your Railing in Plan View and then switch to 3D View, select Railing and press "Pick New Host" on the Contextual Tab. Then select the Roof. Railing will snap to the Roof.
