Hello,

I went onto autodeskseek and got the cladding I wanted up on screen. I then proceeded to hit the revit button on the right , the one next to all the other file types. I then checked the box next to revit file and pressed download. It downloads and when, like I always do, I double click on that file it opens as normal seemingly but all I seem to get are pictures of the object im trying to load. Usually when I load in this manner it gives me the option of 'load into project', but not here.I cant seem to find anything. What is going on does anyone know. Hopefully something simple,

Thanks,

Tomas

Is the file type .RFA or .RVT?  If the family is essentially a System type (walls, floors, ceilings etc) then you won't be able to load it in the way you do a window or door.

Its an RVT file. If not the normal way what other way is it?

Cheers,

Try copy pasting. If it is a wall family it can be copy pasted. You can then delete the object and it should exist as a wall type.

Open both the source RVT file and the destination RVT file. Then in the destination RVT file go to Manage> Transfer Project standards and select the relevant categories.

That should get what you need into your project.

The difference is that some family categories are System Families. These include walls, floors, roofs, ceilings, etc. They do not exist outside of a project file as a separately loadable file the way regular families do, such as cabinets, light fixtures, furniture, etc.

If you find a chair online and you download it, it will be an RFA file. This is a family file and can be loaded into any project file. Well, any project file of the same or newer version of Revit, at least.

If you find a wall type online and you download it, it must be an RVT file, because walls are a system family that cannot exist outside of a project file the way a chair can. So intead of just loading it into your project like you can with the chair, you have to open the project file you downloaded and transfer the wall type into your own project file, or template file.

Correct.  If you want just that one wall type, copy and paste it.  If you transfer from one project to another you have to select the category which will bring in all the wall types.  You can purge them out later but if you just want that one, copy and paste is the easiest way.

Regards Peter.
