Linked Revit Files with Weird Fills

I'm new to the world of linked Revit files and I'm trying it out with a site plan.  In this site plan file I'm linking two building files and planting them on the site plan. Some of elements in the linked files have shaded regions associated with them that were not showing up when I viewed them in there original files.  I've looked at the visibility graphics settings but I must confess I don't know where to start in terms of assessing which setting needs to be tweeked. In short, I can’t seem to get the windows or the stair cut in the linked files to show up with a white background. The floor plan view elevation and the site plan view elevation are close enough I'm fairly certain this is not the cause. Any help would be greatly appreciated. See attached jpeg titled “Weird Window and Stair Fills”  I've also attached the three files in question below.

Turn off shading in your view.
