Line editor in family editor

Why is the line editor missing from the family editor? How do I create a line of a particular pattern, thickness and colour on the family so that it is visible on the project?

You don't. Display of lines is intended to be controlled by the project, not by the family.

You can place model lines in a family, and specify a unique subcategory for them to belong to. Then once the family is placed in a project, you can give that subcategory an override to control the line width, pattern, color, etc.

Doesn't work. The line options for the family editor do not show up on the project editor. Anybody else?

What? Of course it works. You're talking jibberish.

Here is a sample. I've edited this roof drain family. I've created a new subcategory called mytestlines. I've drawn some randome lines assigned to the mytestlines subcategory. I've loaded the roof drain family into my project. I can go into VG and override the Plumbing Fixture subcategory mytestlines as I see fit.

In fact, as I discovered while testing this, you can actually set the default line color and pattern right within the family editor.

What Chris means is that you have to go to Manage - Object Styles to create a new line type subcategory when you're working in the family editor, versus using Manage - Line Styles like you do in a project.
