Limit the family types selectable by a <Family Type...> Parameter?

I'm trying to set up a door type, that will have a range of elements in it, and hardware is something that would be selected by the user, for specific locations in the door. 

For example, I have on a door leaf, a Push Plate option (visible via Yes/No), a Pull Handle (also Yes/No), and a Lever handle (ditto Yes/No). For each of these, there might be 2 desirable options, for size. I'm setting up the options to be based on Generic Model's, which would be shared as they will be used across a number of other different types.

Is it possible to restrict which options are available in the pick-list, for each of these options, so only the correct one gets selected? At present, if I selected any that were set up, I would get 6 options, plus anything else that might also be a Generic Model, and the user has to select the right one; if they select a Pull Handle option, for where I want really a lever handle option only, it could get messy pretty quickly.

So is it possible to limit what options are available, more than the very broad 'Select Category', which is all that seems available at present?

Note: Revit 2021, but Revit 2023 doesn't seem any different? I've also seen Paul Aubin explaining this back in 2016 as not being possible...

No. It would be good to have something like the "usage" property that is available in profile families, which helps to filter a long list of similar choices. To avoid confusion, you may want to predefine the correct choices yourself in types.

Add different prefix to the nested family names so that you can identify them more easily from the list.

Yeah, that is kind of what I was looking (and hoping) for.

Oh well...

It was always only a 'nice to have'.

I'll just not use this feature, and go instead for the single option.

The door hardware was going to be Generic Models, there would be hundreds in a project, so not really feasible.

Even if I revert them to being Doors with a subtype, still going to be an issue.

As I said in this thread, a 'nice to have' not a 'must have'.

I'd do this as an 'Idea' but knowing Autodesk can have 900+ votes in a period of 7+ years and ignore what customers really, really want, frankly what's the point, the joke is very much on us...

So there is a "Family" parameter, which allows you to choose any family within a category (which becomes useless if you have a door swing annotation and a door panel both set as door category just to choose 1 example)

But there is no "Type" parameter that will let you choose from types ONLY within a specific nested Family??!!
This would be a great feature to have.
If you are only dealing with unshared nested familys there is a workaround. You can set the desired nested Family to  a random weird Category and you will by default only have the 1 family you are trying to parametize in your drop down. (For exaple I'm trying to have diferent door panels with diferent geometry in a parameter. The door Panel family is set to 'air terminal' and in the host family, only 1 nested family belongs to that category)

So since only a single Nested Family belongs to the category "Signage" only that family is available in the drop down
(I made sure that no other "Signage" families where being used)

This would definitely be a nice to have rather that introducing user error and tricking Revit into separating the types by category. If a new tech comes along and wants to know a how or a why, it will be rather confusing.

Our ParameterFocus Revit add-in allows you to set up predefined possible values on your parameters. When using the add-in's panel instead of the Properties panel, the user can only set the predefined values on the parameter from a dropdown. We're working on incorporating FamilyType parameters too, which will be launched some time next month!
