Dear all,

I wonder what the limit of revit are, concerning the sharing of a project : is it possible to create a building from several computers, working on a same shared file ? For example, with each floor of the building created from different computers ?

Tkanks !

Yes, that is what worksharing is for - it allows you to split your model down as you desire and only load in the elements that are relevant to the work you need to do. How you split things down will depend on the building and how the design team is structured.

Thank you very much for your answer, Mr Wilkinson,

This work is for a project at school, more precisely. I would like to share the building construction so that each student could model one floor or one face simultaneously.  So, if I understand well, they should work with a shared file from the start, and absolutely not working on several files that have to be combined at the end. Right ?

Best regards

Yes, provided they all have access to the same file on the same server. Set a file up at the outset as a Central file that includes all the necessary levels. Then create worksets as required, in this instance you could create one for each student to model their work or several prefixed by the required level number or maybe the students initials.

No problem. Interesting choice of post for the 'solution' though... ;o)

Feel free to pop back and ask more questions once you get up and running with it.

Dear Mister Wilkinson,

I contacted you few weeks ago because my students started a project in
which each of them should model a part of a building simultaneously. It
seems working well, but not at school, because they do not have the
right to write on the same file simultaneously. Does autodesk proposes
the use of a server for this type of situation ?

Best regards

As others have said above, If the computers of your students are all connected to a network, and if you create a central file and they create local files, your students should be able to work on the project simultaneously. Maybe you have not setup central files and local files yet? By reading your last message, I get the idea that your students are trying to open a simple file that has not been enabled as central. I would recommend you to read about this topic at this link from the Help docujments: http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2016/ENU/?guid=GUID-C8E54DC5-2A4C-4C12-A4B9-86D73EB9C048
