Lights and Ceiling Problem

Hi,

For some odd reason, my ceilings aren't working properly.  When I draw them, they aren't showing up on the ceiling plans-they are showing up on the floor plan created for that level.  And when I put lights on it, the ceiling is behaving like a floor and the lights go up instead of down.  Help!

You probably draw the ceiling lower than the cut plane of the ceiling plan so that you are not seeing it (looking up but the ceiling is below).  When you place lights, I guess face based family, from the floor plan looking down so you pick the upper side of the ceiling and that explains the lights are up side down.

Cut a section and see what is the elevation of the ceiling.

I drew the ceiling the same way I always do, and Revit is making it a floor on the next level instead of treating it like a ceiling.  When I see it in section, it looks fine.  It just won't show up on an RCP, but only as a floor plan for that ceiling height.

Just draw it properly and don't look in overview.

What is the View range of the ceiling plan? What is the elevation of the ceiling?  Can you share the file?

You ceiling is above the view range and at the level above @ 18'-0".  That is the reason for all the issues that you are facing.  Either lower it or extend the view depth farther.

Have a cut plane below ceiling level and top view range should cross ceiling level..

for ex

1. Ceiling at Ground Level +18' then

2. cut plane should can be Ground Level +0 to Ground Level+17' 

3. View range TOP should cross ceiling level ex : Ground Level +19'

If ceiling is still not visible then try to change the type of ceiling, shade, ceiling surface pattern etc..

Yeah... mostly just lower it. Put it on the Storefront Level instead of the Underside of Slab Level, and give it an appropriate Offset value instead of 0'.

Also, most of the MEP light fixture families are face based, and several are modeled in such a way as they expect you to place them in an RCP view. If you place them from a floor plan view they're going to be upside-down. I've never had any problem just selecting them all in a Section view and mirroring them around the ceiling.

It happened with me and I finally realized that it was in another "phase"; the proposed phase, where I was in the existing one.
