noticed that I can't do anything (extend/dimension/align/snap/etc) with a legend component.  

any way around this?

What are you trying to do with it? To extend it, use the host length parameter. You can align components to other components by dragging them until they snap in alignment. Other than that, there's not much else you can or would need to do with them.

Also you can dimension legend components if the components are built correctly. 

Ensure reference planes have been used to constrain and have Is Refence assignment.  I.e. reference planes should include at a minimum, Left, Right, Front, Back, Centre Left/Right, Centre Front/Back, and for 3D components, Top and Bottom Reference planes. 

 

This is way you can dimension to the Reference planes in the Legend View. 

If there are additional references you want to dimension you can use Is Reference “Strong Reference” & “Weak Reference” for the additional reference planes in the family. Hope this helps.
