Layered Walls Join Problem

Hi there,
I am having quite a lot of wall join problems with merging layered walls, and I usually work around it by dragging back and rejoining walls in different orders.  Drawing really small perpendicular walls and etc. It is quite frustrating.

But this particular one, I couldn't manage and need help.

Below is my situation:

Below is what I am trying to get. I made this in photoshop by taking multiple screenshots and merging them:

this is what revit gives me:

I really dont want to draw walls layer by layer. But I will if I have to.
I am curious what the best practice is . And what experts do in these kind of projects.
I have attached my file and  any solution is appreciated.
Thank you.

I think the join tool is what you're after.

I've used the grids to ensure that the column doesn't move. After that I used the trim tool to connect all the walls together through the column. This made quite a mess, so I used the join tool to sort them out. Join the column to each wall, then use the Change Join Order option until things look the way you want.

I then had to create a new wall type that was plaster & paint only to wrap the column where the current walls didn't. I also re-aligned the brick wall with plaster & paint to the edge of the new plaster & paint wall on the "south" face of the column.

This works, thank you. I was able to replicate .

One final question, is there also a way to get rid off the little lines where the thin wall that represents paint&plaster butts at the thicker layered walls ? Is there a way to join them too?

So as far as I understand, we get the best we can with join/unjoin and join orders, then if there are still some little parts left , we create thin walls to cover them.  Is this the general workflow ?

I think between using the join & join order tools & @barthbradley's post you should be able to remove those small lines. If not, I'd just ignore them. They are only going to annoy you, no one else will notice them.

HA! That Link I posted doesn't even apply here.  I just took a look at your RVT. It's a fricking nightmare!  I'm fighting Wraps and Auto Joins and Boogeymen!

The main  issue is with the position of the Column.  The finish materials of the horizontal wall that joins to the Column needs to "miss" the Column.  In other words, the Column needs to move up 5/8", or the horizontal wall needs to be moved 5/8" down.

After further observation,

I realized that this problem is not isolated to a few places. And unfortunately most of the time, the join order/join tool seems helpless in making them look right. It creates weird looking intersections. Causes a lot of lost time.

If the fill is right, the finish is wrong , if there are 2 or more different types of layered walls and an architectural column intersecting it goes full bonkers.

For anyone who stumbles upon this thread, as a solution, I decided to separate plaster and paint into a different thin wall family and core structure of the wall into a different family. This defeats the purpose of having a smart wall tool in the first place but it beats being in constant conflict and frustration.

Now I am looking for a way (possibly an add-in) to select boundaries of rooms and/or big exterior outlines to cover them with plaster with as few clicks as I can. If you know any add-ins that do that , please let me know.
