Laptop for Revit and AutoCAD

Hello,

Im looking for a new laptop for work. I mostly will be using it for Autocad but would like to make sure it can run Revit. I have compared the specs and have settled btw these two, I think. Please let me know if you have either and how you feel about them. I'm leaning towards a 17 inch so i can use it without a monitor if needed, but if im sacrificing a lot, I dont mind going for a 15 inch. Thanks!

I have neither but they both look solid. The Dell has more video memory but lower spec SSD and HDD. But SSD and HDD can be replaced, videocard cannot.

.... I don't know how much is your budget but you can take a look at theselaptops at MAINGEAR

... it is custom made, you can order anything you want, and they are not expensive

... and whit these you can run the entire autodesk apps

..... or you can the get specifications exactly you are looking for

https://www.maingear.com/custom/computers/custom-built-laptops/index.php

.... my pC is from there and is amazingly fast

Thanks. That means the rpms are lower, right? Sorry, I just took a crash course on this stuff in the last week trying to figure out what i need, but I truly don’t know what any of it means.

So you would go with the dell and just upgrade that stuff down the road if you needed too?

I read somewhere that the screen for the G3 wasn’t the best color wise, but this was based on a gaming review. Do you think halt be ok as long as I’m not rendering on it?

What sort (size and complexity) of projects you are going to do? What are the prices of the two laptops.

I wouldn't worry about the screen colors too much, even if you do do rendering.

It’s for a new office, so I’m not 100%sure. Most of it will be CAD, I’m just hoping to get them to work in Revit. Based off of what I know, some of the projects get pretty big. College dining halls, car dealer, etc

Both those laptops are currently around $1400

It would be 10 vs 9.5 between the Dell and the HP so you wouldn't go wrong with either, really.  And the prices seem pretty reasonable.

The 10 being the Dell? Ok great! Thank you for your help. I just wasn’t sure if they were good options.

@Anonymous:  If you go with Dell (which I have been for the last 25 years); I'd suggest buying from their Business side, rather than their Consumer side.  Much better support!

p.s. In case you didn't get it; I was joking when I mentioned "Floppy Drives". I guess it's only funny if you're old enough to remember those days.  Anyways; I'm headed back to my lawn chair for a nap now.  Take care.

Here's a link that speaks to what I was suggesting. I'm sure you can find others as well.  Good luck!

Does anyone have any feedback or knowledge on the new 8750H CPU's filling up laptops (replacing the 7700HQ)? I have always though the highest base clock speed is best for Revit. The 7700HQ was at 2.8ghz, whereas the 8750H has a base speed of 2.2ghz. It turbo's higher, but Revit doesn't use that all the time to my knowledge? Any thoughts?

They are different generations so comparing clockspeeds alone doesn't do justice. You have to look at benchmarks at a whole (cache sizes, memory speed and memory bandwidth throughput, etc..).

yeah sorry, I should have been a little more detailed in my query. I have looked at some of the bench marking and the raw numbers show more threads and higher single core speeds, but I was wondering if anyone had in experience with new units and seen this turned into actual noticable gains real world? The increases are small and I am not convinced it is worth worrying about at this point. I have a few students asking as they have come across some deals with the 7700HQ in it. I found one RFO benchmark at the Revit forum, but that's about it.
