Lables in Revit 2016

I have a problem with the address label on my view sheets.  I upgraded from Revit 2015 to 2016.  The address label worked fine in 2015, but will not open when it is clicked upon in the view sheet.  All of the other labels still work fine, and the label still works in the family (but not when it is embeded in the sheet.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Hi,

You can try to check the following :

1. Label Parameter - check the parameter used in the label from the titlesheet family and make sure it is loaded in the project where your sheets are

2. Visibility - check if the label does not use any on/off parameter from the titlesheet family, make sure it is turned on in the project

3. In the project sheets, select the titlesheet and see if you can place the text manually from the properties box.

Let me know if none of the above works. 😃

Hi Ryan,

Thank you for the quick reply. No, the parameter does not appear in the properties box, so I am assuming that this is the problem - it has not loaded into the project.

How do I go about loading it?

Hi,

You have to check what parameter is being used for the label, you can check it from the titleblock family. Click on the label and verify the name of the paramter from the property box and once verified, check the same parameter in your project model make sure it is loaded. Your project is not reading the parameter that is why you are not able to change it.

Let me know if you need further help.

You can load by adding it from the Project Parameter option. Look for the same parameter within your standard "shared parameter", you probably have one somewhere in your BIM library, and just add it. If you cannot find it, look for the person who created the titlesheet, he may have the parameter saved in some place.

If still the above does not help, replace the label in your titlesheet family and created a new parameter, name it as you want, reload the modified titlesheet into the project. Now add the same parameter that you have just created into the project and i am sure this will work.

You will need to know the location of the Shared Parameter file used to add the parameter(s) in the Label in your family.

  1. From your project file, on the Manage ribbon tab, on the Settings panel, sleect the Project Parameters tool.
  2. In the Project Parameters dialog, select the Add button.
  3. In the Parameter Properties dialog, in the Parameter Type area at the upper left, choose the Shared parameter radio button.
  4. Choose the Select button.
  5. In the Shared Parameters dialog, if the Shared Parameters file used is current, select the Parameter Group in which the parameter was placed, and then choose the parameter.  Select OK to return to the Parameters Properties dialog, and skip down to Step 9.
  6. If the Shared Parameters file used in not current, in the Shared Parameters dialog, select the Edit button.
  7. Verify that the current selected file is incorrect.  If so, select the Browse button.
  8. In the Browse for Shared Parameter File dialog, navigate to the location of the Shared Parameter file that contains the shared parameter used in the Label.  Select that file and then select Open.  Jump back up to Step 5.
  9. You should now be in the Parameter Properties dialog, having selected the desired parameter.
  10. In the Parameter Data area in the lower left, select the subcategory under which the parameter should be grouped, using the drop-down list.
  11. Choose whether the parameter should be a Type or Instance parameter.  If each instance of your family with the label needs to have a different value (without creating/selecting a different type in that family), you will want it to be an Instance parameter.
  12. Choose whether the parameter value should be aligned per group type or whether the values can vary by group instance.
  13. In the Categories area at the right side, choose the object category or categories to which the parameter applies.
  14. Verify all settings are correct, and then select the OK button to dismiss the Parameter Properties dialog.
  15. In the Project Parameters dialog, select the OK button to dismiss the dialog and add the parameter to your project as a Project Parameter.

Thank you for your reply. I have now delved deeper into the problem. If I create a new Label the problem still remains.

If I click onto Manage>Project Information I can see the parameter. Rather than just changing the text in this box, there is a square box alongside the standard text, and I have to click onto this to make alterations. These alterations then populate the sheets.

Whilst this is a workaround, it is rather tedious in comparison to 2015 where I could just click on the label to alter the text (which is what I am still able to do with all of the other project information labels).

The out-of-the-box Project Address parameter has been that way since I have used Revit.  Perhaps in 2015 you were using a custom parameter?

Hi Thanks for the response.

No I have not changed the sheet other than upgrading. This may be something to fix in Revit. It would certainly be easier to be able to click onto the property address label and make alterations this way.
