Keynote Schedule Custom Open Field ?

hi - I want to create a custom field in my revit Keynote schedule for an open comments field to add more detail to the keynote without having to create a new item and edit the keynote file every time I want to simply be more descriptive, but I can't find anywhere to do this. 

Surely there is a way. Video attached.

Not possible. I checked 2024 and it is still the same. The only "additional" column that you can make is one that combines the two fields, keynote and description, into one. 

It is probably because of the nature of a keynote: a brief way to refer to something, either by number or by text, with the possibility to refer to the specifications for all the detailed information about each name or number.

Why not just place a "footnote" (e.g. reference to a sheet note) alongside the Keynote?

If you need more than two fields then use multi category tag instead of keynote.

just a way more manual process. Ideally I want to use the system structure and standards but then simply add a comment.

That'd be great if one of the category tags would accept the keynote table items. So one filed would be selected from that table and the other one would be "open".

Of course it's manual. How else would the information get in there? I mean, if you want it as part of the keynote itself, then modify the keynote txt file to include that info in the keynote description.  Still manual though.

mean 75% of the information already exists in the keynote .txt file. However, there are instances where that's not enough and I need to add a note to it. So, yes, adding the note/field is what I'd want. It's not manual when the existing keynote is sufficient most of the time, but need options when it isn't.

Even if you could, I don't know how you would manage "color commentary" in a Keynote Schedule.  In your case, your Keynote Schedule is showing "02 41 00.A7" and "Salvage Item, Re-Use in New Work".  If you had the ability to add another column for "color commentary", you'd also have to add a column for a NUMBER to identify which specific "02 41 00.A7" instance the "color commentary" pertained to.  That would mean your Keynote Schedule would have to Itemize Every Instance -- AND, you'd have to add this "color commentary" NUMBER to the Keynote Tag as well.  Sounds messy to me.

There are people way smarter than me that can figure that out, but it's feasible. Yes, it would have to itemize the comments. Surely there's an algorithm that someone would develop that when a note exists they increment a table item, add a new line items, etc. etc.  Not messy, just takes some applied thinking. What I'm suggesting isn't that complex.

Really?  I believe Autodesk could use you then.  What you are asking for is something that has been a perennial request of Autodesk as far back as I can remember. I'm talking years.

Autodesk can use a lot of help. There are plenty of "simple" things that people complain about that seemingly aren't hard to implement yet they remain undeveloped.

I'm sure there's a list somewhere that outlines all of them. Most recently was measuring in 3d views, just implemented in 2023 or 2022?, yet others have had it for years. Every software company has their backlog of features and we don't know where or if this is in that list. It could be, but could simply gets deprioritized for whatever reason.

As stated originally, I'm not the guy that could figure out the algorithm, but it's simply a bunch of rules that someone needs to design and build. Ask ChatGPT.. I'm sure it will kick out some solutions.

Okay. I hear you. So back to present day reality. What are you going to do to specify that it is the Rake Board the Keynote is referencing to be salvaged and reused?

....and, FWIW, I'd pull a Filled Dot Leader Arrowhead from face of element in Elevation Views to provide even greater clarity about what's being referenced.

I just created custom plan notes that aren't tied to any table and have to manually type in my details.

So, you decided to just go with a note reference number placed next to your CSI Sub Code?  That ought to do the trick.  You can include as much "color commentary" as you want.

Not even CSI sub-code. Just a number. I'm still not sure if this is the route I want to go, because I'm running into issues when I want to create a "new" table for each elevation. For whatever reason I can't get duplicate the table and then simply point "new" notes at a different elevation to that table.

If I'm understanding you correctly...create another Generic Annotation using a different Parameters for Note Number and Note Text and pull those Parameters into a new Note Block Schedule. That resolve?

Probably something like that, but I need 4 total. So, again seems like a lot of work for just simple notes.

Would need to do this 3 more times for each elevation. Or just roll them all up into one Demo elevation notes table, which is more for trades to read through, decipher, etc. Trying to make it easier for people to digest.
