Join Nested Family to Host Family

I'm working on creating a simple window family from scratch and I'd like to create a parametric panel with grilles that I can later add to other window families. I created the grille as a separate generic model family then loaded it into the host panel family so I can make an array for the grilles. I haven't quite figured out the array part, but I know that in order to snap anything to the centerline of the grille it first needs to be a nested family otherwise there is no centerline on the grille to align it to other things. If this is not the case, I can create the grille within the host family and it will join fine, but as is, the nested grille will not join to the panel generic model. If there is another way to accomplish my end goal without having to first figure out how to join the nested generic model to the host family, it would be great to know, but if there is no way to join them and accomplish my end goal of creating a parametric array for the grilles, then so be it. I'd just like some advice and help with this project. Thanks!

@kimberlyMPHHZ check the video to see how I use parametric Array by your grille

accept or like my answer if it helps you.

Were you able to get the nested family to join to the host family? That's the problem I have.
Your video was helpful though because it reminded me that I can set the distance between the grilles to be equal to the width/number of grilles. This gets me closer to being able to have an array for the grilles inside the panel. It'd be nice if the array automatically centered itself though or I could hide the first and last grilles in the array so it's only showing the center ones that are inside the panel. I'll look into that

Presuming you have checked the option cut with voids when loaded, use a face based void to cut it around the window frame; otherwise you can't ...hence, you need to precut the grill before you nest it

I made a void in the nested family but now it won't show up in the host family. Here are the updated Revit files. I checked the box "cut with voids when loaded" but the void is not cutting anything in the host family. What am I doing wrong?
