Join native Revit walls to Picked face walls

Hi,

I have imported a doubly curved geometry to revit and picked it by face to become a wall. However, once the wall is 'picked by face' if have noticed (as in the past), that it loses its ability to join to regular native revit walls. As a result, I am forced to edit the profile of each wall which makes impossible to parametrically update as well as a nuisance to edit each wall. I cannot seem to join the walls and there is only an option to join to roof or floor which does not work. Here is a screen shot and any advice would be greatly appreciated! Is this even possible with slanted exterior walls? I suppose the floor plates would have to have their profile edited as well.

Hi Erik

Here is a way you can easily achieve that:

First, go to your mass family, pick the surfaces from the SAT file and create voids. thick ones (see jpg 1)

Second, dont forget to go on the Family Parameters and activate "Cut with Voids When Load" (see jpg 2)

This means also the voids you created on the family will be loaded and will cut elemens you want.

After you load your mass, you can use the Cut tool to cut your interior walls permanently. (see jpg 3)

And here you go, you can move them and the voids still will cut them. Of course you can do whis also with floors.

Kind regards,

Hi Marvi,

Thank you very much for your detailed reply! Unfortunately I am stuck on how to pick a face from my SAT file in the conceptual massing environment. I have exploded the object, but only am able to pick edges which are then projected into the active plane. There is probably something simple I am overlooking. Thank you in advance!

You have to go with your mouse over the surface you want to select and press the TAB button on your keyboard until the surface is highlighted. Then you select it and press Create VOID.

While pressing TAB you can see your Status Bar (bottom left corner) what are you about to select... edge, surface or mass. You need to stop when you catch the surface.

Kind regards,

By the way, you dont need to Explode the Object... I used your family as it is...

That works! I didn't think that was an option in the massing environment. Thank you so much for your help!
