Issues with Creating Stairs

I tried to create a straight run stairs either by component or component, neither of them seemed to be convenient to me. 

By component, the second run always shifted even though I tried to align it with the first run, don't know why? It seems to me that it is easier to edit the stairs created by component, but there is always this shifting which is annoying.

By sketch, it was difficult to control the landing depth. If I edited the temporary dimension, the landing would overlap with the treads. Then I tried to move the whole second run treads using the new landing line as reference, it gave warning "Highlighted lines overlap. Lines may not form closed loops". It seemed there was no way to edit it.

Just edit the stairs and move the second run to align with the first one.

By the way, there is no shifting unless you picking the second run not aligning with the first one.  I can draw them straight on every time.

Is the box below un-ticked by any chance?

Thanks for the movie, I noticed when I initiated stair by component, on the option bar, the default setting for the location line was Exterior Support: Left, once I changed it to Run: Center, I was able to draw it straight.

As for using the stair by sketch to draw a straight run, I still had no idea how to control the landing depth. After I drew the first run, i could see the blue dash line for me to indicate where to start the second run; I wanted the depth of landing to be 8', but there is no temporary dimension there to help me start the second run at the right distance from the first run;so I went ahead to start the second run with random distance. After I finished the second run, I tried to edit the landing depth, so I clicked the lowest line of the second run to display the temporary dimension of the land depth which is 4'10", after I changed it to 8', this line jumped to overlap with second run treads,  I tried to move the whole second run treads to align with the landing, it gave warning "Highlighted lines overlap. Lines may not form closed loops".

My last question is how to create a stair by sketch (not by component) with accurate dimension, or edit a stair which is created through sketch method.

There is no secrete.  You just need to draw everything in the sketch mode with accurate dimensions as if you draw anything else.  You can sketch the stair layout with drafting lines and trace them to create the boundary and risers for the stairs.

I don't quite understand.  When you draw wall, there is always temporary dimension as a reference, so you know where to stop, how come when you create stairs by sketch, it only shows the number and dimension of risers, but when you try to locate the second run in order to  have a landing with the accurate dimension, there is no temporary  dimension for reference.  

Please see the attached video, the warning is"Highlighted lines overlap. Lines may not form closed lopes" , you can tell, one rise is missing. 

What do you mean by draft tool ? Do you mean draft in advance before you create stair model?? I know in Autocad, you can offset or stretch the object to get what you want, here, you can just move the object.

Temporary dimensions are not the only means to assist you to model accurately.  See the two screencasts below.

When I used stair by sketch to create the stairs, I got error messages "Stairs require no more than two boundaries (chains of one or more Boundary Lines)."

also, 27 RISERS CREATED, -9 REMAINING, I know the negative remaining number is because I tried to create split staircase, how to deal with this type of stairs?   Please see the attached jpg file. Thanks!

Looks like one of many limitations of Stair by Sketch.  Why don't you try Stair by Components for one?  Miles better than sketch.

(Autodesk even removed Stair by Sketch in 2018 version.)

Yes, I did try stair by component, much easier.  Just wanna see if stair by sketch would work too.

This makes sense. I personally find Stair by Sketch is really not convenient to use.

It seems Stairs by Component also allows creating stairs through sketch, right? In case you have a feature stair with sophisticated shape.
