Is there a way to flip on object based on a parameter?

I am currently working on a family that consists of several types (sweeps, extrusions, general purpose models, etc.) and need a way to flip the entire family model based off of a parameter. Essentially a Yes/No parameter that would flip or the object one way or the other. I know one option is to just use visibility options but that would require for the family to contain a duplicate of everything inside, and I'm trying to keep the model as light as possible. I've been using Revit now for close to two years, so I thought something like this would be possible, but from my tinkering around I can't figure it out.

Any suggestions?

Flips have no capability to tie to parameters, nor do they have any functionality except their one purpose: allowing a family to flip in the project environment via a click on the flip symbol. The method of duplicating the modeled objects and using visibility parameters is a generally accepted way of parametrically building a change of orientation into families (you could see any of Simpson Strong-Tie's hanger families for examples, such as this one). I can see how making the flip able to be controlled via parameters could be useful. You could check if their is an Idea for this, and if not, post a new Idea on the Revit Ideas page.

It depends on what you are modeling and how you are modeling it. example:

• Using the Adaptive components, you can control the flip with a yes/no
• Using non-adaptive components, you would use nested profiles (extrusions/sweeps/etc) and to avoid duplicates, use Family <type> parameter/labels to control the nested instance ie: the flip

You have to also consider that certain forms might not work properly when or if their profile is flipped therefore having either labeled nested families or multiple nested components with a visibility control is the better solution

In your post, you don't mention the option of adding flip controls in the family. I hope you are aware of that. Not controllable by parameter, but they get the job done in a very simple way.

I think I read you wrong in my first reply.  I thought you wanted to flip a switch to choose one among different components in the family, hence that reply.

If you just need to mirror the family in the project without using Mirror tool, follow @Alfredo_Medina advice.
