Initial Project Setup with Multiple Buildings

Hello,

We are starting a new Revit project that has three residential buildings on one site. We have modeled the new buildings in one Revit file prior to receiving a survey, which we now have. Now we are wanting to implement best Revit/BIM practice in terms of setting the Survey Base Point, Project Base Point, and correctly place the survey .dwg file.

Also we would appreciate advise as to how to manage the model(s). Two of the buildings (Single Family Units 1 and 2) are identical but mirrored, and the third building is a duplex with one half of the building (Duplex Unit 3) mirrored to create the second duplex unit 4. See the attached screenshot.

Can someone please help us, in the order best suited to Revit and our specific project:

  1. Advise if we should pull the three buildings out of the model and into their own Rvt. file models, or just keep all buildings in one model with the site.
  2. Advise as to placing the Survey and Project Base Points for this specific project. I have been referencing this YouTube video but not able to follow it and apply it to this project of ours: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BigvY4LT-RI
  3. Advise as to setting the survey .dwg file up in our project. I have been following this forum post http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-architecture-forum/linking-a-cad-topo-file/td-p/6453490 and this YouTube tutorial

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mit2vFFIOL4

and believe I understand it for the most part, but we are getting tripped up with the coordinates as noted above in item 2.

Regarding the Site, that should reside in its own RVT. The Building RVTs would then be Linked into the Site RVT, moved into their respective positions relative to the Site, and then their positions recorded via Publish Coordinates -- ideally Publishing to a Named Site, not the Default "Internal".

Here's a good read. For your project, page 17 on.
