Infilling element replaced by a later phase insert must be the same type as the

 Hi all

I keep having the following quite annoying warning in a project of mine every time I try to change a wall

"Infilling element replaced by a later phase insert must be the same type as the insert's host."

I have been using Phases for ages even on a quit complex project and this is the first time i see it.

Any suggestion?

thank you so much in advance

Now is the weird part.  If I moved the door up a bit then  I can even select the infill wall.

Door or Window; I can get it to work correctly both ways.  Want a RVT? Don't know it will help though. It's an order-of-operation thing.

Goodmorning

I can see you guys worked hand on this during the night (italian time).

thank you so much

ok let me try to answer some questions

@ToanDN

Yea i did more or less the same. Actually I do have doors and windows in the project so I am not sure which one triggers the error. Now that you mention it maybe doors and not windows are the point even though the wall that I try to change does not have any door.

@barthbradley

I just select the wall and change the try to select another wall from the type selector

Please see animated gif attached

thanks

Now your turn to try this.

<For what it worth, I am not saying that wall should be changed to a different type in an actual project.  It's purely testing purposes.>

- You CANNOT change the demolished portion of an existing wall caused by a new opening to a different wall type

- You CAN change the infill wall of an existing wall caused by demolition an existing opening to a different type

Invalid. You changed/added a bunch of things irrelevant to the only thing I asked - simply select the wall inside the opening and change its type.

Anyways, it's a moot point now. You don't have to do it. It's already clear what can and cannot be changed.

I went back to the article you posted and realized it is entirely wrong.  Submitted a feedback.

@ToanDN: I have no idea what your are talking about, @ToanDN.  But, the bottom line is that I followed @robertovalentino workflow and it works. Maybe I didn't do it in the same order as the OP did it, but nonetheless, the mission was accomplished.

I would be nice, if I could understand what you found "invalid" about it.  I'm sure the point you're making is valid. I'm just not getting it.  I think we may be talking apples and oranges.

It is invalid because I had one request asking you to do one single thing and you came back doing something else and a "Like this???".

Okay, it does sound like we're off-topic. But, if it makes you feel any better: Yes; I error out when I try to change the INFILL.  Why would I do that though?

@robertovalentino

Can you expand the screen capture to reveal the properties of that wall?

To see if it is the reason gave OP the same error.

Hey guys: I can now replicate this issue all day long and twice on Sunday.  This is reproducible with wall opening families (windows, doors) which are using void elements to cut the wall opening, but not the families using opening cut

The information in this AKN article helped crack the case.  In your face, Sherlock Holmes!  he, he.

So it took me quite a while to figure out that there was a solution offered in this thread, so I might pose my interpretation of the solution in different terms before offering another version of the problem I am running into.  Here goes. You have a wall in Phase 0 with a door in it. in phase 3 you are demoing the door. You go back to phase 0 to change the wall to an 'existing wall' type that you weren't using previously. It gives you the error message. But, if you go to phase 3 and try to change the wall type, you can, because that is the same phase that the infill element for the door is being automatically created and will change both at the same time.

Here is the twist. You have 13 phases in your project expected to take 5 years to construct. you are adding and removing doors in the same wall multiple times before ultimately removing the wall altogether. I could not change the wall type without removing the second door from the wall altogether and putting it back into the project in a new wall, which isn't actually what we would be doing.

Why is this program always limiting your ability to design because the program itself is based on simple basic projects? So frustrating!!!  I sick of spending all my time trying to find new, more clever workarounds for the programs failings!

@AMBrown29   I'm a newbie to Revit.  This error message is driving me insane.  I've read through the thread and I'm still confused about what to do.

I have a 200mm wall (existing) with a window (existing) in it.  I just want to change the wall's thickness to 300mm.  Can you please give me step-by-step on how I can solve it?

I'm having the same problem today.

a building model started by someone else.

it is an existing building, and I'm trying to modify it to match as-built documents, which requires a different wall type than what the original modeler used.

I have tried copying one of the walls and stripping everything else off the wall in all phases, and I still can't change the wall type.

I often find myself just starting over from scratch with things like this, which is not efficient. But it may be my only choice here.

i ended up duplicating the wall type so i still had it, and then renaming and modifying the wall that was still in place to be what i needed. gg revit
